This happens to me a lot -- I'm out with friends, and we decide to get
some beer somewhere.  Inevitably we get asked for ID, and I never have
mine.  After all, this isn't Soviet Russia; why should I have to show
my papers to anyone that asks?  "Prove that you're not doing anything
illegal," is not how America works.

Although I usually get by, I always get weird looks afterwards, as
though I just killed somebody.  It's really creepy, because it happens
every time, no matter who I am with.  Personally, I expect friends to
back me up and say something like, "hey man, that sucks; what a shitty
police state we live in".  Instead I get a reactionary "OMG YOU DON'T
HAVE ID YOU TERRIST CRIMINAL BABY EATER OMG!!111".

This really worries me.
